Klaus Nomi
The 1981 debut by Klaus Nomi. Another "what the hell is that?" purchase. I saw this cover and knew I had to have this album. And what an ear opener it was! I still listen Klaus and wonder how this ever saw the light of day, because it's very difficult to describe without actually listening to it. A strange mix of operatic vocals and pop/pop-synth is the best I can come up with. It strangely works for me and apparently others liked it too, because this wasn't his last album. Unfortunately though, Klaus' career never went far as he died of AIDS in 1983.
UFO - Obsession
Released in 1978, this was their last studio album with guitarist Michael Schenker until 1995's Walk On Water. It doesn't quite live up to the classic Lights Out, but there are some gems here. This band just plain rocks. Just one of many in my very extensive UFO collection.
The Police - Reggatta de Blanc
Released in October of 1979, this album was a major springboard for The Police's career. This album made me a confirmed fan and still remains my favorite Police album. It contains one of my favorites, the timeless Walking on the Moon and many more.
