The Car - The Cars (1978)
The debut album from The Cars. One of the first new wave bands to hit it big. A fresh new sound at the time and a nice relieve from the disco era that had FINALLY begun to pass. Released just as I was finishing Junior High School and entering my formative years.
The Clash - London Calling (1979)
A true punk era band hitting their stride. This album was a logical progression from the above mentioned Cars album as it came out about nine months later. A similar off-beat quality, but with a decidedly harder edge. Quite possibly another step toward a youthful rebellion. :)
Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery (1973)
An album that came out way before I took a liking to it. I don't recall exactly when progressive art rock music began to appeal to me, but my best guess would be somewhere around 1983. My first exposure to ELP had been about 5 years earlier when Austin Sweeney —who was a few years older than I, found three abandon kittens and named them Emerson, Lake & Palmer. The reference escaped me at the time, but once I discovered their music it stuck with me…to this day obviously! December 15, 2006 @ 12:57 pm | Category: Record Gallery
